Qawwali for those who don't know is a form of Sufi Islamic devotional singing originating in South Asia. The unique mix of devotional, ecstatic, and secular sounds that weave together hypnotic vocals rich in poetic and mystical symbolism. Both Fareed and Abu and their ensemble seek to transport musicians and audiences closer to the divine and believe it is an exercise to improve the soul!
The evening will feature:
Qawwali Mastery: Experience the enchanting vocals of Fareed Ayaz and Abu Mohammed, accompanied by harmonium, tabla, dholak, and handclapping
Tarab Ensemble: Enhancing the evening's musical journey, Melbourne-based Tarab Ensemble will perform classical Arabic instrumental pieces, adding a unique touch to the celebration.
Eid Festivities: In addition to the music, the event will include a variety of food stalls serving South Asian cuisine and Chai, alongside craft displays, making it a full sensory celebration of Eid under the stars.
