The 2006 hit movie, Night at the Museum fulfilled every child's fantasy about history coming to life on a grand and exciting scale. Well, Queensland Museum's version — A Night at the Museum — doesn't promise you a bone-fetching T Rex, fire-loving Neanderthals or partying museum exhibits, but it does promise a special museum experience designed especially for kids that will fascinate and entertain them, unlock their imaginations and maybe inspire a lifelong interest in history.

I've loved museums since I was a child. While modern museums are, quite rightly, places of high tech wizardry, interpretive trails and interactive displays, there's a little part of me that stills yearns for the museums of my childhood, the ones full of carefully labelled specimens under glass, and realistic stuffed and mounted animals that could be quite scary, in a pleasant kind of way. My ten year old self would have loved the opportunity to stay behind after the museum had closed its doors to fully explore the Aladdin's cave of wonders.

and Exhibitions/Events/2017/07/A Night at the Museum#.WQ2nodwlHIW A Night at the Museum allows little adventurers the chance to explore everything the museum has to offer, including The Queensland-focussed and Exhibitions/Exhibitions/Permanent/Wild State#.WQ2mztwlHIU Wild State , the and Exhibitions/Exhibitions/Permanent/Sciencentre#.WQ2nBdwlHIU Sciencentre and its new exhibition and Exhibitions/Exhibitions/2017/04/Mathamazing#.WQ2mldwlHIU Mathamazing , and from 23 June 2017 the glories of ancient Rome and its famous athletes in Gladiators: Heroes of the Colosseum .

An exciting range of programs will be available during the event including live music, hands on activities for little fingers, pop-up shows and exciting demonstrations. You will be able to buy hot and cold food and the event is licensed so adults may enjoy a quiet beverage (ID will be required).
