This is a great little exhibition and a chance to visit the headquarters of the National Trust which are in Tasma Terrace, close to Parliament and the Fitzroy Gardens.
The building is a three-storey, grey-stuccoed 1879 terrace designed by Charles Webb, who also designed the famous Windsor Hotel. So the building itself is well worth a visit.
This unusual exhibition is a collection of common crafts, crazes and collectables which explore the 19th century fascination with the Natural World.
All family members, including children would be on the look out for specimens when they ventured out. So many people became amateur botanists and geologists.
Found items were turned into all kinds of creations, as in the beautiful picture above, which uses feathers to great effect.
Simple botanical specimens such as ferns and flowers were also used as templates for the domestic decorative crafts.
Martin Purslow, CEO said that the National Trust was delighted to " to offer this exhibition for both members and non-members to enjoy throughout the summer."
This is a totally free exhibition and afterwards you can make your way to the Fitzroy gardens to see what treasures you might also find. Perhaps a floating feather or a seed pod that has fallen from a tree.
This may well be the basis of your own masterpiece.
