Arts for All will present Arts Imprints Around My Neighbourhood for one day only. It is suitable for young and old.
Arts Imprints Around My Neighbourhood is a music and storytelling trail that takes place in Toa Payoh neighbourhood, transforming these unusual sites to be the venues for pop-up performances. It will be led by Quek Ling Kiong, the Music Director of the Singapore Youth Chinese Orchestra, joined by a well-known local vocalist Tay Kexin, storyteller Chen Zhao Jin and some young musicians.
Arts Imprints Around My Neighbourhood
It hopes to inspire participants to rediscover the roots, and appreciate the landmarks that they might have forgotten in their residential areas.
Toa Payoh is the second oldest satellite town to be built in Singapore. It was the first to be built by the Housing and Development Board (HDB) in 1964. Queen Elizabeth II visited in 1972 and 2006 when the England crown visited Singapore officially.
Prior to that it was a agriculture area. Its name in Hokkien (chinese dialect) means "big swamp".
The trail will start from Toa Payoh HDB Hub, and walk down the memory lane to The Toa Payoh Town Park - a famous dating site in 1970s to 1980s.
The performers will serenade participants with classic love tunes. The Dragon Playground will be revisited to reminiscence about the childhood days. It will bring you back again to HDB Hub. Along the way, you will be entertained with familiar stories and songs you had grown up with.
For art & craft lovers, you will be treated for an hour-long craft activity at 9am and 3pm and you could have your own props during the performance. Each craft activity will take approximately 15 minutes to complete.
Arts for All is an initiative by National Arts Council to promote self-expression, creativity and bonding through the arts by bringing it to where people live, work and play.
