The classic Shakespearean story of A Midsummer Night's Dream will be interpreted through the power of dance as the Queensland Ballet brings the story to the stage from 12 to 27 April 2024 at the Queensland Performing Arts (QPAC) Playhouse.

Under the guidance of the Queensland Ballet's Artistic Director, Leanne Benjamin, the story of A Midsummer Night's Dream will unfold in brilliant dance artistry in this 2-hour performance.

So, what is the story? While the pursuit of love is a theme in several Shakespearean plays, AMidsummer Night's Dream is a tangled one. Against the backdrop of a mystical forest, four Athenians run away where they encounter Puck the trickster servant who conquers a magical circumstance where both of the boys fall in love with the same girl.

But love wins in the end when Puck eventually reverses the spell, and the two couples reunite and marry.



The Queensland Ballet
The Queensland Ballet's own story began six decades ago when dancer Charles Lisner opened the Lisner Ballet Academy which was later named the Queensland Ballet in 1962. It became one of the first ballet ensembles to tour regionally and it continues this tradition today.

The Queensland Ballet's new Artistic Director, Rockhampton-born Leanne Benjamin replaced Li Cunxin after his retirement. Benjamin was the Royal Ballet's longest-serving principal ballerina and is the first woman to take up the covenant Arts Queensland role to become the Queensland Ballet company's sixth artistic director.



Benjamin comes with stunning credentials and experience having worked with dancers Margot Fonteyn, Rudolf Nureyev, and Mikhail Baryshnikov,

A Midsummer Night's Dream will be performed for a limited season at the QPAC Playhouse which is located on the corner of Grey and Melbourne Streets, South Brisbane.
