The Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA) will celebrate spring with a season of Shakespeare's magical play
A Midsummer Night's Dream at three spectacular outdoor venues, The State Theatre Centre of WA Courtyard, Fremantle Arts Centre and the Midland Junction Arts Centre this September.
Directed by Bell Shakespeare Associate Matt Edgerton, this modern reimagining of one of the Bard's most loved comedies is a fast-paced, physical adaptation that will showcase WAAPA's graduating Acting students in their final performance for the year.
"It's rock and roll Shakespeare. It's rough and ready." said Andrew Smith, Performance Program Director.
Played in modern dress and pared back to an hour and fifteen minutes, Edgerton's
Midsummer Night's Dream tells the tale of fairies, a moonlit forest, young lovers, amateur actors and the marriage of the Duke of Athens, Theseus, and the Queen of the Amazons, Hippolyta.
