"A Lady Mislaid" @ Garrick

Garrick Theatre kicks off their 2013 year with an English comedy like no other. A Lady Mislaid written by Kenneth Horne and directed by Rodney Palmer will be showing at the historic Guildford theatre from February 8 to March 2.

Two sisters move to the country in search of peace and solitude after one sister's recent nervous breakdown and the passing of their father. Manor cottage seems the perfect place, just outside of town surrounded by all the beautiful scenery that the English countryside has to offer. It's perfect for them.

No sooner do the sisters settle into their new home when their peace and tranquillity is disturbed by the police wanting to dig up their yards looking for the dismembered body of the previous tenant's wife.

Things become even more complicated with the arrival of the missing woman's husband who turns out to be the main suspect.
Director Rodney Palmer of Darlington, chose the show after coming across the script in the props room one day. "It brought back all the fond memories of listening to Kenneth Horne's work on BBC cassettes", he said.

"I was immediately drawn to the play. Its subtle humour and situations are fantastic and the twists are a total delight". Palmer has become a regular performer in recent years and made his directorial debut in 2012 at the club with the popular Dr Who themed play Who Knows.

"Time has flown so quickly with this show. I'm amazed at how the cast have bonded and worked so hard, it's been a true
delight", he said.

For both Claire Marshall and Lynda Stubbs, this will be their debut performance on Garrick's stage. Claire who is a seasoned performer at Marloo Theatre, plays the loving and gentle character of Betty. "Betty really cares for her husband despite his infidelities and naughty ways", she said.

This may be Lynda's first time performing on Garrick's stage, however she is well known and is regularly seen around the
club usually in a backstage role over the last four years. "I play Mrs Small who is motherly and a busybody, she knows almost everything", she said.

Graeme Johnson of Alexander Heights plays the charming bigamist character of 'Smith'. "Smith is delightfully elusive. He's not evil, just a bit misunderstood", he said.

Johnson, who is well known for his sound technical expertise among Perth theatre circles says this experience has been
inspiring and challenging. "Rodney is a new, inspired director who is uninhibited by traditional stagecraft".

The season runs from February 8th to March 2nd, 2013. Tickets cost between $14 and $18 and may be obtained by ringing Elaine on 9378 1990.
