The Queen Victoria Building is celebrating 120 years this year and it's almost as iconic as Christmas. It's the perfect destination, right next to Sydney Town Hall, not only for shopping and dining but for a festive season of fun.

The centrepiece of this building, under the dome, once again sees a beautiful and dazzling Christmas tree covered in more than 100,000 Swarovski crystal ornaments, along with 65,000 lights and 6,400 rosebuds. It's 24 metres high and spans three levels. Imagine putting that up. With 100 dedicated team members helping, it's not so bad but still took 10,000 hours to put together.

It's nothing short of amazing but this captivating creation is not all that has gone up. The Enchanted Garden is in place and welcoming Santa, alongside performing trumpeters and live choir performances under the glittering star of the Swarovski tree.

This garden setting for family photos features blooming wildflowers, woodland creatures and festive fairies fluttering around. For the first time ever, your pets can get in on the act and strike a pose, creating a new tradition to cherish. Bookings are a must and are now open with different packages available.

The QVB is also launching some new helpers, from 29 November, to assist with any angst of Christmas shopping that you may have. They've sought to make it easier on us with a lively cast of six charming porters whose ultimate wish is to help in any way needed. From directions to carrying bags, they'll even entertain you while they're at it. A bevy of usherettes will also be giving away new products and sweet treats, whilst gift assistants will ensure your shopping experience has a fairytale ending. Their special talent is helping you find the perfect gift for a range of interests and budgets. For customers with special needs, Sensory Santa is an exclusive shopping experience that will operate outside usual trading conditions.

An exclusive QVB Christmas brochure and online gift guide, highlighting picks of the season, will aid in bringing the spirit of Christmas as will bespoke gift wrapping from the team at It's a Wrap and an array of Christmas workshops from retailers (to be announced shortly).

Christmas trading hours are extended, as follows

10-12 December 9am-7pm
13 December 9am-9pm
14-16 December 9am-7pm
17-18 December 8am-7pm
19 December 8am-9pm
20 December 8am-10pm
21 December 8am-9pm
22 December 8am-7pm
23 December 9am-6pm
24 December 8am-5pm

Note that levels 1 & 2 are open from 10am and some stores may choose to open different hours. Santa will be around in his Enchanted Garden until 24 December, whilst the Swarovski tree will remain until 7 January.

My Christmas gift suggestion blend your own oils from the Perfect Potion Aromatherapy Blending Bar. After the busyness of getting ready for Christmas, you're sure going to need something soothing to the senses to relax you after the big day.

For those that are fans of Channel 9's The Block, then the Monopoly special edition based on the show may well be the perfect gift. It's available at Hobby Co.
