Well, bust my buffers! If you have little ones in your life, chances are that they are, like my toddler, massive fans of that famous blue steam engine, Thomas, and all of his friends on the island of Sodor. And now they can spend a whole day out with Thomas and his friends at the NSW Railway Museum in Thirlmere, just an easy two-hour drive from Canberra.
The NSW Rail Museum holds a Thomas Day Out every two months during the year. We went to a Thomas Day Out last year, and my toddler had a fizzling firebox of a day! He absolutely loved meeting Thomas (of course) and climbing into his driver's cab and tooting his whistle, meeting Sir Topham Hatt (or the Fat Controller, as he's more famously known), meeting Henry the number 3 green engine, and taking a steam engine ride pulled by Donald the number 9 black engine from Sodor (Thirlmere) to the nearby village of Buxton and back.
Next to meeting Thomas and the Fat Controller on a Thomas Day Out, you can also:
Ride aboard Toby the railmotor Enjoy unlimited mini-train rides Enjoy unlimited jumping castle rides, with 3 castles to cater for different age groups Get your face painted Visit the Imagination Station where you can listen to Thomas stories read by a storyteller, enter a colouring competition and play some Thomas games, and explore the museum's huge display of heritage trains.
You won't go hungry from all the excitement either as there will be a variety of food stalls on the day. There are also self-serve BBQ facilities on a first come, first served basis.
