Nothing says Christmas, or even the end of another year, like a look back on past 12 months to see if you were naughty or nice. And nothing says Indie Theatre like a 2017 adaptation of A A Christmas Carol at Kings Cross Theatre, on until 24th December (i.e. the perfect Christmas Eve activity before launching into MORE Christmas Eve activities).

This time, the famous Charles Dickens fable of reflection on a horribly-lived life is adapted into a modern-day cautionary tale by Melissa Lee Speyer and directed by Michael Dean. Audiences are taken through Ebenezer Scrooge's past, present and future, and the whole story is told with references from 2017's headlines (Donald Trump, anyone?), and the casting reflects on Hollywood's (and Australia's) shake-up on diversity in entertainment (women play lead roles, for instance).

A Christmas Carol is brought to life by cast Bobbie-Jean Henning (Slut, The Trouble with Harry), Aslam Abdus-samad (Fire and Ice, Antigone), Jacqueline Marriott (Battlers & Dreamers) and Monica Sayers (Dead Caesar, Where's My Money?), who inter-change and play a variety of roles throughout.

This new adaptation is witty and thought-provoking, offering moments of laughter and other times forces audiences to question their beliefs. And, like all good Christmas stories, it will leave you feeling uplifted, too.
