Written by English playwright Alan Ayckbourn, 'A Chorus of Disapproval' centres on young innocent widower, Guy Jones, who joins an amateur theatrical group currently staging a production of "The Beggars Opera".
Guy eventually secures the lead role but life soon imitates art as he makes friends (and enemies) with his fellow cast members, all in a riot of sex, death and theatrical frenzy.
This hilarious fast-paced comedy is a cautionary tale of a man who couldn't say no to wine, women or song and features the original songs from 'The Beggar's Opera' (however they are sung in a new context).
The exciting production is directed by Roz Riley with musical direction by Susan Briedis. The cast incudes Sophie Almada, Ella Arendelle, Danny Bolt, Susan Briedis, Andrew Cougle, Julie Dimond, Maria Hempill, Keith McIlroy, Luke Reeves, Micky Rose, Jerome Studdy, Kurtis Wakefield and Sally Williams.
From the review by Sydney Playwright W Lewis:
"It's Alan Ayckbourn so you just know it will have crazy characters, bizarre monologues & much hilarity. But this one has extra punch: a wacky Welshman who holds things together by the skin of his teeth…just. ".... The show is dotted with songs from the opera – beautifully performed by all – an added bonus!"
