Canberra's inner north suburb of Dickson is affectionately known as Canberra's Chinatown because of the number of Asian restaurants and grocers clustered around Woolley Street. I recently visited a Dickson newcomer, A Buy Asian Grocer. This place is an enigma with no online presence to be found. What it lacks in socials, it makes up for in a slick and convenient shopping experience.
While a lot of Asian grocery stores are known for their crowded, bustling vibe, A Buy is firmly at the shiny, bright and orderly end of the spectrum. With bright yellow signage, a relatively roomy layout and bright lighting, this is closer to a western supermarket look. The Aisles are easy to navigate with clear signage and organised product placement. A Buy has a fantastic selection of fresh and frozen foods to get your wok sizzling.
They are stocked with plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables as well as frozen seafood, meat, pre-made dumplings, noodles and meals packing the many freezers and fridges. A Buy is loaded with the usual grocery items like rice, noodles spices, sauces, tea and more with a great range of brands and flavours. You'll also find plenty of snacks, drinks, lollies and even fresh cakes and bread making this a great Asian grocer all-rounder.
Centrally located on Woolley Street in Dickson, there is street parking available outside. If you love the more chaotic approach of some traditional Asian grocers, A Buy may not be for you but if you want a modern approach with a great range and reasonable prices, you won't be disappointed.
