Co-owner of social enterprise - How Dare She?
The book is always better
To be a bibliophile with no one to relate to your favourite literature pieces or understand your amazingly witty jokes that revolve around basically being a nerd is one of the loneliest things in existence.
So, to be able to sit in a room with numerous other people that read a book (ever) is incredible. To have people that understand and laugh at your otherwise awkward book references is, to say the least, bewildering.
A Bookish Comedy Show ticks all the book nerd boxes - full of enthusiastic book lovers of all genres with a vibrant lineup of comedians from different places in the world.
Lead by the hilarious, witty, and enthusiastic George Dimarelos (who has taken this show all around Australia) A Bookish Comedy Show is packed full of goodness - from book jokes, quizzes, nerd humour, goofy and surprisingly (and weirdly) promiscuous book covers to intelligent and insightful conversations and statements to cause contemplation after the show.
No genres are left untouched by the comedic spin and all ages and references are included, from pop culture to classic literature (and even the Old Testament!)
You don't have to be a book nerd to enjoy A Bookish Comedy Show. Even if you are one of those people who believe the movie is better than the book or someone who reads once every 5 years (I'm not sure how that's possible but whatever), everyone in the audience had a giggle, got a say, and talked about their favourite books, literature, or just a poem that influenced their lives or stuck with them.
Even as a current Year 11 student having to read 1984, it was interesting to see how many of these 'have-to-read' books that the audience thought had been a pain at school, actually stuck with them into their adult years.
If you are a word nerd, you'll leave feeling a little bit clever and with the knowledge, you're not the only person at a Fringe show that cries when reading - in fact, there's a whole room full of people of all ages that do it too.
I felt like I was in a space with a whole lot of people that get me. People I could be friends with. People I'd understand. A Bookish Comedy Show is a refreshing celebration of intelligent and amazing people that all agree on one thing: Twilight is not a piece of literature.
