The Nambucca Boatshed and Cafe

Our family recently enjoyed the adventure of driving from Melbourne to Noosa and back over a two week period stopping off in great places along the way. On the stretch of the drive between Sydney and Byron Bay, we stumbled across the delightful Nambucca Heads.

As we drove north along the Pacific Highway, our tummies started to rumble as it was approaching 9.30 am on a sunny Sunday morning. We decided to turn off to Nambucca Heads and were excited to see a lovely Nambucca Boatshed and Cafe. We quickly parked up, bundled our two sleepy yet excited children out of the car and went over to enjoy a hearty breakfast of fruit, pancakes and bacon and eggs!

The Nambucca Boathouse and cafe is in an idyllic spot. We chose a table beside the river on their shaded veranda that runs all the way around the Boatshed. We were all thrilled with not only our friendly waitress and yummy breakfast, but also that we could sit back and watch the swans, pelicans, fishermen, beautiful mangroves from our seats.

From where we were seated we could see signage for The Gulmani boardwalk. We decided to explore it whilst we were there and break up our drive, so we headed off on the 3 km long boardwalk that followed the river, past mangroves through a park. We enjoyed good views all the way along of pelicans, mangroves and fishermen. It was a really easy walk and great fun for the kids as there was plenty to see along the way. The walk took us right down to a V-Wall where families paint rocks, and fishermen toss in their lines. The water was a crystal blue/green and so clear that the kids were fish spotting all the way along the boardwalk.

Nambucca Heads turned out to be the perfect pit stop we had been looking for to break up our family drive from Sydney to Byron Bay.
