If you want the best, you have to go to the source. Buying directly from the farm is not always easy but 9Dorf is a great location from where you can buy farm fresh eggs, poultry, fish and beef in the Lockyer Valley. Stop in to buy directly or join a farm tour.



About 9Dorf Farms

9Dorf Farms has been in the Neuendorf family for 4 generations. In case you haven't figured it out yet, the name 9Dorf is just a cool way writing Neuendorf. Like many farming families, they are deeply motivated to both care for the land and get the most value for them and their families. Seeking better opportunities in the agricultural industry, they have focused on ethical agricultural practices as well as diversified into fish farming.



Products

Since moving into fish farming, the most popular product to pick up from the farm has been their Barramundi, Murray Cod and Jade Perch. They are sold whole as well as fillets, depending on your preference. The fish are raised in tanks on the farm and they can catch the fish fresh for you on your request.



For most people just passing by, the pasture-raised eggs are very popular. The sizes start at large and include extra-large, jumbo and big boppers. You will never go back to ordinary-sized supermarket eggs after these. Also, there is something special about farm fresh eggs.



You can also pick up pasture-raised chickens, including whole chooks, parts, sausages and mince. This includes chicken livers (great for omelettes) and necks (great for certain Chinese dishes). They also sell pre-marinated chicken including lemon garlic and honey soy, but when you have free-range chickens, it is best to keep it simple when you cook them so you can savour the natural flavour.

They also sell beef, but unless you have a huge family, most people will find that buying a quarter, half and or whole beast is more than they need. This is more for restaurants, butchers and catering businesses.

They used to sell pork, but at the time of writing this, they were no longer doing this. I am not sure if they will add pork to their offerings in the future.

Buying

If you want to buy from the farm gate, you should call beforehand. Their number is listed below and is on their webpage. They also deliver Brisbane, Toowoomba, Gatton and Ipswich.



You can also find their products at the Toowoomba Farmers Market at the Cobb and Co Museum every Saturday morning, and at the Ipswich Good Food Co-op on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday from 4pm to 6.30pm.

Farm Tours

They also do farm tours by arrangement, catering from small groups up to 15 people. The tours can include a pickup by bus. During the hands-on and educational tours, you will learn about how they raise their hens, what they do to keep healthy fish, and you can feed the calves. The tour ends with afternoon tea.



Overall

The Lockyer Valley is a foodies dream destination, from cool cafes to top-end restaurants. For people self-catering their trip or looking to pickup some farm-fresh food to take home with them, 9Dorf Farms is a great place to stop in and grab some goodies.
