7th & Bake Patisserie Cafe is located on the Kingston Foreshore, just a few minutes drive south of the CBD. The Kingston Foreshore is a strip of cafes, restaurants and gastro pubs along the water's edge, on the iconic Lake Burley Griffin. Although there are over a dozen eateries to choose from, 7th & Bake Patisserie Cafe is a casual café to meet up for a coffee with a friend, have a quiet breakfast before a walk, or to sit on your own with a good book and a cronut. As their name suggests, they specialise in cakes, sweet treats and desserts, however they also have healthy breakfasts, tasty lunches and Canberra's own Lonsdale Street Roasters coffee to enjoy.
Another feature to appreciate on a brisk Spring morning are the full-length plastic curtains in the outside dining area, which take the cutting edge off an icy lake breeze. The greenhouse effect created behind them is a cosy place to relax and warm up before a walk along the lake. As the young girl on the next table so aptly announced, "This place is super toasty!"
With the sweet tooth that I own, in fac,t there must be several hidden in there, it was the pastries and cake displays which attracted me the most as soon as we walked in to order. There were cronuts dripping in caramel, macarons, croissants, glossy pastries, slices, tarts, pies, brownies and cheesecakes. It was a sugar overload waiting to be tried. Cronuts are a popular choice at 7th & Bake Patisserie, with their sugary combination a cross between a croissant and a doughnut. Cronuts seem to be in every cake display across the country after being "invented" in New York a few years ago. Now they are available at most cafes and establishments, with 7th & Bake Patisserie Cafe making a variety of creative flavours.
Looking around at the other tables, the desserts were the main attraction for most people, enjoyed with a side of cream and a contented smile. It doesn't matter what time of the day it is, this café doesn't blink an eyelid if you want to order dessert first. The calorie-laden milkshakes with whipped cream and dripping in topping also looked particularly attractive - so there was no point even trying to fight it.
Although this cafe is becoming well-known for its dessert selections, it is also popular for their All Day Breakfast menu and tasty lunchtime meals. Check out their menu here, as well as taking a look at their Specials Board each day for both breakfast and lunch. Due to the Kingston Foreshores' lakeside location, generally the prices are a few dollars more than other cafes around the city. Breakfast is the more affordable option with most of the breakfast options under $20 and lunch options are around the $19 - $25 mark, or you can choose from the gourmet savoury rolls in the display cabinet.

This new cafe opened its doors for the first time in January 2016 and over the last several months it has gained some happy regulars. It is a comfortable place to visit for a casual bite to eat, or to just pop in for a delicious coffee. In the warmer months, the outside tables are popular spots to sit under umbrellas, however it is also a cosy cafe in the colder months behind the full length plastic curtains. If you are out for walk around the lake, or cycling around the Eastern Loop, there are endless choices along the foreshore to stop at - however why not give this café a try? With the warmer weather on its way, it is a scenic and relaxing spot to simply just sit and watch the world go by, on the popular Kingston Foreshore. If you have a sweet tooth, or several, you may be sitting there for awhile.
