Climb up to the crazy 78-Storey Treehouse at the QPAC, cracking good fun for the school holidays

The official World premiere of The 78-Storey Treehouse has opened with a bang at the QPAC following on from the smash hit shows The 13-, 26- and 52-Storey Treehouses, live on stage.

The bestselling Treehouse series started in 2011 and is the imaginative creation of two Aussie authors: Andy Griffiths, who writes the words and Terry Denton, who draws the cool pictures. It is a massively successful phenomenon, selling millions of books around the world to kids who love intricate illustrations and lots of laughs. Starting with a 13-Storey Treehouse, each floor is dedicated to something cool and in each book, more floors are added in multiples of 13 with incredible things like: a tank of man-eating sharks; a vegetable vaporiser; a desert island, a whirlpool; and even a human pinball machine. They are already up to The 91-Storey Treehouse with many more books to follow!

Fans of the book can now see the books come to life onstage at The 78-Storey Treehouse, on at the QPAC now. The same CDP Kids Production team and Richard Tulloch, who adapted the 13-, 26- and 52-Storey Treehouse has produced the biggest and best treehouse yet with 13 more levels including a Scribbletorium, a high-security potato chip storage facility and an open-air movie theatre. The extra treehouse features are so good Mr Big Shot (Samuel Welsh) a famous Hollywood producer has arrived to make Andy (Tim Carroll) and Terry (Teale Howie) big movie stars by turning The 78-Storey Treehouse into a new Hollywood blockbuster. It all seems very exciting, until Terry's best friend Andy's character is replaced with a cheeky gibbon named Mel Gibbon, who can't even talk!

Andy fights back with the help of his crazy friend Jill, played by Freya Pragt who is an intergalactic space animal rescuer. His spat with Terry culminates in an intergalactic duel where Andy pushes Terry into a Black Hole, 'spaghettitising' him into a stringy mess. Fortunately, the Combinator which combines anything put into it into new things, is on hand to help put Terry back together, with the odd additional feature!

Meanwhile, the comical spy cows are secretly 'mooving' around the film set making their own 'Moovie' and Andy wears a cowpat hat to try and fool the dastardly cows and stop them stealing the treehouse plot for themselves.

With a fast pace, interchangeable sets and some cool intergalactic lighting The 78-Storey Treehouse is ideal for children under 12, my nine-year old son enjoyed the weird dancing and the luminous space scenes most.

This is a great school holiday show to amuse the kids and there is also a Treehouse merchandise store selling all of the books and games for a quick last minute Christmas gift. It has slapstick humour, silliness, the obligatory fart joke and even some magic tricks wrapped up with a bright set and comical characters.
