The National Film And Sound Archive has digitally restored the legendary 1949 Australian movie Sons of Matthew.

Starring Michael Pate and filmed primarily in Springbrook, in the Gold Coast Hinterland in South East Queensland, legendary cinematographer Charles Chauvel based the storyline on books written by Bernard O'Reilly of the renowned O'Reilly Family. The O'Reilly's have for generations run O'Reilly's Guest House within Lamington National Park.

Paul Byrnes, Curator, on ASO says, "Sons of Matthew expresses a great sense of nationalist pride, but with the kind of red-blooded action sequences that Chauvel always strived to provide. It was even credited with helping to attract postwar migrants to Australia, through the film's energetic publicity campaign in Britain."

The 70th Anniversary screening of Sons of Matthew is being presented at HOTA, the Home Of The Arts at 135 Blundall Road, Gold Coast on Wednesday, 13th of March, commencing at 6:30pm. After the presentation, the Chief Curator of NFSA, Gayle Lake, and Charles Chauvel's grandson, Ric Chauvel Carrison, will be available for a Q and A session.
