Imagine snuggling up inside a cosy home next to a roaring fire, a glass of red wine in hand while nuzzled in nature. Welcome to the world of tiny homes.
They're no more than 200 square feet, a tiny home, tiny space on wheels but it's fit with absolutely everything you need from a kitchen to a living room.
My husband, Shaun and I, spent the weekend at the '6Sixteen The Banks' tiny house on a beautiful property overlooking the Blue Mountains, in the stunning region of the Hawkesbury.
I stumbled across this house on the Tiny Away website, where there are dozens more scattered across the country. We were trying to find the perfect getaway out of Sydney – something not too far and not too close. This proved perfect, less than 65 kilometres out of the Sydney CBD and right on the doorsteps of the incredible Hawkesbury.
From the moment we walked in, it was an instant feeling of being at home away from home. The owners went out of their way with personal touches for us to feel extra welcome. Everything from a bottle of wine to a cheese platter fit for two – the house was equipped with everything we need to enjoy our weekend away.
It's the perfect chance to get close to nature and yet enjoy the comforts of home set on 5 acres. We couldn't get enough of the outdoor scenery, surrounded by the beautiful lush landscapes of Agnes Banks with a perfect backdrop of the Blue Mountains.
As we watched the sunset, the sky changed from a sky blue to a bright orange and eventually a sharp red before complete darkness.
This was the perfect opportunity to rug up and spend hours outside under the stars roasting marshmallows on the bonfire with a cheeky glass of red.
You don't have to sleep in the wilderness to experience nature... and tiny houses like these prove just that. They bring nature to you while you enjoy being off the grid escaping the hustle of it all.
After a well-earned sleep, we woke up to the incredible views of nature, just absolute serenity soaking it all in. The owners made sure we were well-fed providing us with a complete breakfast meal everything from eggs, mushrooms and bacon to our favourite sourdough bread and even cake to finish it off. Needless to say, we enjoyed a long lazy breakfast on the verandah while soaking in the winter sun and enjoying the crisp air.
Don't be fooled by the size, this home is well designed with a fully functional kitchen and spacious bathroom. It's one of many now taking social media by storm because it's described as a 'private oasis'.
For less than $200 a night, this loft style accommodation fits up to 4 guests and gets booked out pretty quick. So if you're looking for a stay not that far away, this is your go to!
I highly recommended this as the perfect weekend getaway in Sydney… next for us in trying out a tiny house in Picton.
