This is a movement program featuring five original short works, each about 10 minutes long, presented by some talented West Australian dance artists. In partnership with STRUT Dance company, artists receive mentoring and support to bring new works to the stage. The series is curated and directed by James O'Hara and Sofie Burgoyne.

There are some interesting works presented here, The Scramble by Shaun Johnston focuses on two male wrestlers and explores their reactions to one another, their expressions, codes of touch and intimacy found in male relationships in the sport of wrestling. We see the characters move between different emotions like competition, aggression, joy, elation and celebration. Contact sports are a societal-approved outlet for men to bond with one another and express human touch, some sports even involve touch through physical violence.

Risk pas de deux by Patrick Gunasekera is a ballet duet with a mobility walker. It touches upon a young man's struggles to overcome isolation and different emotions within himself. Many Australians suffer mobility issues partly due to an ageing population so the use of mobility aids such as the walker is becoming more common, yet many public and private facilities are not that accessible for those with mobility aids.

In The Mist by Jiarui Lin, is about a man who unintentionally senses a fog before him and is driven by a sense to unravel it.

In Moving Words by Lara Dorling, she shares her words, voice and dance with the audience, who are encouraged to note anything that comes to mind as they are watching her improvised performance, which explores the idea of listening to the words in your head and the stories that emerge if you do.

Echoes of Expansion by Elsa Bignell and Meg Scheffers explores landscapes and the rhythmic nature of spaces and landscapes and how this affects our trajectories. The visual projections and lighting leave the audience

Well worth checking out these performances - a thought-provoking evening combining dance, movement and storytelling.
