The Leukaemia Foundation is challenging you to raise a minimum of $555 and complete a 55 kilometre bushwalk through the Sunshine Coast's Great Walk track in two days.
By being part of our annual hike you'll enjoy fabulous views, fresh air, the sounds and smells of nature, and meet like-minded people doing amazing things for blood cancer patients - all this while enjoying the benefits of a hike and improving your overall health and longevity. Hiking gives your muscles a workout, helping to prevent and control various diseases, and pumps oxygen and fuel throughout muscles and organs, increasing energy levels.

55 for 5 is an outdoor hiking challenge to help raise much-needed funds for people living with leukaemia, lymphomas, myeloma and related blood disorders. Every day six people in Queensland are diagnosed with one of these illnesses. Funds raised will directly support the care and cure of blood cancer patients. 55 for 5 "isn't a walk in the park." It is a demanding hike that is achievable by all age groups. Your fundraising efforts will assist the Foundation in continuing to run a new exercise program proven to help cancer patients' health and quality of life
New Pilot Exercise Program
An evaluation of the Leukaemia Foundation of Queensland's new pilot exercise program Fit to Thrive has shown improved outcomes for blood cancer patients in strength, flexibility, and even mental health. Four groups have now completed the Fit to Thrive 12 week medical exercise program, which is run in partnership with Aspire Fitness and Rehabilitation at Woolloongabba. All 24 participants had been affected by a blood cancer or disorder in some way, whether they were in the middle of chemotherapy, in preparation for a stem cell transplant or other treatment, or had completed treatment and were looking to improve their functional ability.
