Hope I'm not so old to be considered an exhibit
The rural town of Laidley is a little over 80 kms from Brisbane City and is located within the Lockyer Valley region. It has a history rich in both farming and timber felling with a handful of fresh vegetable stands still operating on country roads.

The Laidley Pioneer Village and Museum, located south of the township on the corner of Drayton and Pioneer Sts, is an open-air museum that portrays rural life in Queensland since the early 19th century, focussing on farming activity. It is run by volunteers and members of the non-profit organisation Laidley District Historical Society Incorporated

On Saturday, 24th September, the Pioneer Village will be celebrating its 50th Anniversary with an array of activities including

  • Demonstrations regarding dairy work, woodwork, and blacksmithing

  • Learn how to make damper

  • Displays of vintage cars and small engines

I visited Laidley Pioneer Village last year for their Beersheba Day (commemorating the Battle that took place during World War 1) and was amazed by the static displays with all their detail. Restored buildings reflect the life of our pioneers, including an old schoolhouse, gaol, butcher shop, grocery store and post office.

I lost my partner in the tractor shed and with all the old farming machinery which gave me time to enjoy freshly cooked damper with billy tea. It really was an educational experience and a good day out.

Breakfast will be served all day from 8am and gates close at 2pm.

Parking across the road is plentiful and admission charges are as follows:

  • Adults $10

  • Pension/Senior Card $8

  • School Age $2.50

  • Under 5 years Free

I think it is worth noting that Laidley Pioneer Village was the first to be established in Queensland and the volunteers focus on making this a family-friendly facility.

    Yes, we'll be going!

Looks like a good way to support the community after the floods and get to understand its history at the same time, May.
