This is one of my favourite cafes in my favourite part of Perth; 50mL is a quirky little café in Leederville on the main strip (Oxford Street). This café fits in perfectly with the laid-back and pleasant atmosphere that has come to define Leederville.
The décor is a ménage of chintz couches and vintage furniture and in some way it all just works together. Close to the entrance is a Japanese style print going up the wall and behind the counter is a myriad of different art frames. Dimmed lighting is provided by pink colanders covering the ceiling lights. One thing this café does not lack is personality.
From the first time I discovered this place, chatting with my friend over a coffee and a very generous slice of cake, I knew 50mL was going to be a keeper. They serve about 40 types of tea and I find it refreshing to find a place that shows its appreciation for this antiquated drink with so many coffee bars popping up all over town. The types of cake seem to vary day to day but some include Apple and Cinnamon, Raspberry Ripple, Chocolate and Beetroot just to name a few.
A great selection of vegetarian meals is on offer like the roast vegetable focaccias, vegetable and fetta filo and vegetarian wrap. As well as standard chicken and avocado wraps, chicken filo and all day breakfast (another of my favourite concepts and yes, sometimes I do feel like eggs on toast at 9pm). They serve fruit toast, vegemite cheezies and baked eggs. I also enjoy the fact they serve freshly squeezed juices and I would recommend the chocolate milkshake, suitable for any day of the week.
This place is great for late night catch-ups as it's open till late throughout the whole week (it is often hard to find a coffee shop open past five, especially on week days). Come down for a coffee or a pot of tea and just enjoy the easygoing ambiance.
