To say that the Hofbräuhaus 50th Birthday Party went off with a BANG would be a gross understatement. True to the adage of Das Original und das Beste!, this oldest Hofbräuhaus (18 Market Lane, Melbourne - (03) 9663 3361) outside Europe, knows how to throw a party. In my experience, this is the first time I've ever seen a whole restaurant come together and party like old mates. The atmosphere was pregnant with fun, laughter and good times.
The band was tremendous at putting out those tunes that just made you feel like dancing, and everyone did. They definitely played a huge part in orchestrating the clapping, banging on tables, and clashing large steins of Bavarian beer, by the crowd, in time to specific pieces of music. It surprised me with just how much gusto those steins were being clashed in celebration. Hofbräuhaus definitely lived up to its name as the best place for Bavarian food, Bier, fun and fröhlich.
Key people of this event, owner Chris Zechner, media/marketing liaison Philipp Hockenberger and all the wonderful attentive staff and personnel at the venue made everyone feel special and attended to with their prompt service and by constantly checking on your needs. Considering it was a full restaurant at this first sitting of three (on Saturday 28 April 2018), there were no complaints about this traditional and genuine Bavarian experience
There were games, and fun but stiff competitions, and appearances by the CEO and newsreader Peter Hitchener filling the night. Stein holding was a popular one with everyone getting in on the act to hold the large stein filled with beer for the longest time, with the winner able to take home the gorgeous large glass stein. A clear bespectacled winner emerged as you can see below, and girl power was definitely reinstated, with a female winning (in pic below) by holding the largest number of steins; and that would be 15 of them. Wowsers.
The nail-biting competition of getting the nail into a piece of timber with one blow via the wrong side of the hammer was eventually nailed by a guest in a very close competition with staff member Peter. Generally dancing, downing lots of shots, drinking out of steins and eating traditional food in the traditional Bavarian part of the restaurant was enjoyed by all and a huge success. I can only imagine what the later session 2, and to all hours of the night session 3 would have been like, at the Alpine Bar and Bier Hall upstairs. It could have only been a blast, no less.
