I first came across the 50 Plus Centre when I was looking for something to do for my Mum. She visits Brisbane every now and then for a couple of months to see her children, grandchildren and whatnot, but when we're all busy (which is quite often), she doesn't know what to do with herself.
Located in the Brisbane City Hall, the 50 Plus Centre is a club run by the Brisbane City Council for the over 50's. Members can socialise, make friends and have fun in an assortment of activities ranging from various classes and workshops to sports to dancing, all at a very low cost.
Memberships are absolutely free; however you will need to provide some identification when you apply. The activities on offer are held on various days at various times and bookings may be required. See their website for more information.

Art & Craft
Let your inner artist run free and realise your creative potential at painting and drawing art classes using oils and watercolour paints. Be patient, be imaginative and be willing to attend a few sessions for the rewards are invaluable. Don't sell yourself short and come join in.

In addition, it assists physical systems such as the skeletal and muscular structures ensuring they are working properly.
Have you heard about Zumba? Zumba at the 50 Plus Centre is different to what you see on TV. These sessions are specially designed for older adults and aims to develop their fitness. It's a great way to get fit and have an awesome time. Trust me!
Last but not least, is the gentle exercise classes. These are great for anyone and everyone because it improves your endurance, strength, stability and flexibility. We all know that physical movement is important in our everyday life and these classes are absolutely fabulous in getting your body moving as well as providing health benefits for various people.
Who doesn't love a bit of boogie every now and then?
I've always thought line dancing looked really cool, like in the movie Footloose. Well, if you're the same as me and would like to try some line dancing, then you're in luck (only if you're over 50 though). Pop by the 50 Plus Centre and line dance to a bit of country music. You'll learn some routines and moves while having the best time.
What's more, classes for ballroom dancing, square dancing, and clogging are on offer. So whether you like a bit of Old Time New Vogue traditional dance or a taste of folk dance, the 50 Plus Centre has it covered. And don't miss out on the social dance every Thursday!

Playing cards is a wonderful social activity that can be enjoyed by all. It's fun, stimulating, and entertaining. Learn to play the game of bridge while making new friends. It's a fantastic partnership card game with four players. If you're a beginner, don't be put off because once you've learnt the ropes, you'll definitely be addicted. Nothing beats a bit of friendly competition!
Attention music lovers! Attend Musical Discords for some music making fun. Whether you are a singer, play a musical instrument, tap dancer or even have a few magic tricks up your sleeve, come and share your love of music while building your confidence. Be that superstar you've always wanted to be!
