Northern Light Theatre Company
Northern Light Theatre Company presents '50 Golden Years, 50th Anniversary Concert' playing at The Shedley Theatre from September 2nd-3rd. The first show Northern Lights put on was in 1966 and called 'Quaker Girl'. It was low budget show that started the beginning of 50 years in the theatre industry. The 50th Anniversary show is a celebration of shows over the last 50 years featuring stars reprising roles from years ago as a special treat for fans.

The show featured songs from previous productions including 'Wizard of OZ', 'Spamalot', 'Into the Woods', 'The King & I', 'Jesus Chris Superstar', 'Beauty & The Beast', 'Mack & Mable', 'Showboat', 'Once Upon A Mattress', 'Oliver', 'A Little Night Music', 'White Christmas', 'Tomfoolery', 'Funny Girl', 'Annie', 'Grease', 'Chicago', 'Carousel', 'Oklahoma', 'Little Shop of Horrors', 'Fiddler on the Roof', 'South Pacific', 'The Sound of Music' and Pirates of Penzance'.

It was an honour to see Michael Walter reprising his role in 'Fiddler on the Roof' with 'If I Were a Rich Man' from a very long time ago. He still had the vocal power to carry this song and classy dance moves to go with it.

Chris Bunney wowed the crowd with 'Cant Help Loving That Man' from Showboat, followed by a crowd favourite 'Don't Rain on My Parade'. This is a hard song to sing and she did a great job and looked like a star in that shiny gold top she was wearing.

Northern Light Theatre Industry
The Into the Woods duo Andrew Crispe and Buddy Dawson did a great job as the princes singing 'Agony'. It was comical, entertaining and great to watch. John Skidmore had the audience laughing with his humorous comedy routine featuring jokes, anecdotes and audience participation sing-along.

Andrew Crispe was a large part of this production starring in 'Into the Woods', 'Annie', 'Beauty and The Beast' and 'Grease'. His rendition of 'If I Can't Love Her' from 'Beauty and The Beast' was just fantastic; it had so much emotional power behind the song and was well accompanied with Kate Hodges 'Home', also from the same music'. Kate Hodges opened the show with 'Over the Rainbow' from Wizard of Oz and this song was just beautiful, the crowd knew after song one that they were in for a great evening.

A highlight of the show was seeing 'Mark Oates' reprise his role as Jesus in 'Jesus Christ Superstar' singing 'Gethsemane. His voice was made for this song and left the audience speechless after a performance words can't give justice too. Cathy Oldfield presented a number from 'Tomfoolery' with 'Masochism Tango' - this lady stole the show. She was sexy, classy and her voice matched her cheeky personality perfectly. She received a well-deserved applause during the closing.

The singing was broken up with speeches from members of Northern Light from the very beginning including Vivienne Smith, Tony Moore, Fran Edwards and Ceri Hutton who shared stories of their years with Northern Light.

Northern Light Theatre Company
Northern Light Theatre Company always delivers a entertaining show and exciting evening of entertainment and 50 Golden Years was nothing less than perfection. It was great to see so many scholars back to celebrate the 50th anniversary and with talent like that, they have at least another 50 more.

Don't miss your chance to see '50 Golden Years' come to life at the Shedley Theatre this September.
