I like to participate in life rather than be a spectator. Music, dancing, theatre, travelling, food, cycling and walking are some of my passions. Writing is an enjoyable pastime that allows me to share my experiences.
When in Newcastle, Darby Street is the go to place for food, drink and a good time. 5 Sawyers is a popular bar with friendly staff that gets very busy on weekends. The decor is eclectic and fun with a mix of seating styles, lounge chairs and bar stools.

5 Sawyers Bar
During the week 5 Sawyers offer a happy hour from 5-7pm where tap beer, cider, champagne and wine are on offer for $5. Wednesday is my favourite night when all cocktails (except the premium) are $10, I plan to work my way through the list of interesting combinations with imaginative names. On my last visit I started with Tequila Mockingbird, then had an Obelisk.

The 'other' Obelisk
Some evenings they have live music or DJs playing such as the Sunday Vibes sessions. As well as drinks there are plenty of food options, small tapas, share plates, pizzas and larger offerings. The food has always been tasty and of good quality when we have eaten here.
