Spring is a beautiful time of year in Brisbane, with not-too-warm weather and plenty of sunshine.
It's the perfect time to get outdoors and enjoy nature with your young children. Here are 5 fun nature-based activities that they'll love:
Go on a nature walk.
This is a great way for kids to explore their surroundings and learn about the different plants and animals that live in their local area. There are many great parks in Brisbane that are perfect for nature walks, such as:
Mount Coot-tha Botanic Gardens:
This large park has a variety of trails to choose from, ranging from easy to challenging. There are also plenty of opportunities to see wildlife, such as koalas, kangaroos, and wallabies.
Roma Street Parkland:
This urban park is home to a variety of gardens, lakes, waterfalls and playgrounds. Easy to access from Roma St train station.
Go birdwatching.
Spring is a great time to go birdwatching in Brisbane, as many migrating birds return to the city at this time of year. There are many parks in Brisbane with good birdwatching opportunities, such as:
Boondall Wetlands:
Boondall Wetlands is an 1150-hectare nature reserve located 15 kilometres north of Brisbane's CBD. The wetlands are home to a variety of wildlife, including birds, reptiles, and insects. Visitors can enjoy walking, biking, kayaking, birdwatching, and picnicking on the wetlands.
Kangaroo Point Cliffs:
These cliffs provide a great vantage point for spotting birds, such as eagles, hawks, and kingfishers. Then head down the stairs to the riverside to look out for water birds. Bring a book on South East Queensland birds to help identify the feathered friends you find.
Have a picnic in the park.
A picnic is a great way to enjoy a sunny spring day with your family. Pack a lunch and head to one of Brisbane's many parks, such as:

This park has a ginormous adventure playground, riverfront strolling opportunities, and plenty of shady trees.
South Bank Parklands:

Bunya Crossing Reserve Swimming Hole:
This swimming hole is one of the few places you can swim in freshwater in Brisbane. It's a secluded spot that's perfect for a relaxing swim.

Visit an animal sanctuary or zoo.
Children love getting up close to animals, and there are a few farms and petting zoos in Brisbane where they can do just that.
Lyell Deer Sanctuary:
Located at beautiful Mt Samson,
Lyell Deer Sanctuary is a small, family-run sanctuary that is home to a herd of rescued deer. Get up close and interact with these beautiful animals, while learning about their care and conservation.
Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary:
This sanctuary is home to over 130 koalas, as well as other Australian animals, such as kangaroos, wombats, and dingoes.
Bribie Island Butterfly House:
This butterfly house, 1 hour and 10 minutes north of the CBD, is home to around 700 to 1,000 butterflies from all over the world. Children can learn about the lifecycle of butterflies and even have them land on them. Enjoy some other
family-friendly Bribie Island activities while you're there.
