My child-free Tuesday has turned into treat myself Tuesday in the last couple of weeks. Groceries and all the other household stuff can wait, I've decided.

So this Tuesday, I headed off to Racecourse Road for a tasty meal.

Racecourse Road is a little foodie heaven offering a myriad of restaurants, cafes and bars. Among them stand 5 Boroughs, a New-York inspired eatery that serves up scrumptious NY street food alongside a fantastic assortment of beer, wine and cocktails.

I'm not usually a burger person, but there are times when I crave one, a good one. Today was one of those times, so I decided to give 5 Boroughs a go.

The venue is inviting, airy, cheerful and casual. I do love what they've done with the place and the best part is that you can wander in at any time of day to get a feed between 11am and 9pm Sunday to Thursday or 11am and 10pm Friday to Saturday. They are even open on public holidays from noon to 9pm.

Upon entering the venue, I was promptly greeted by friendly staff who showed me to my seat and briefly went through the menu.

The burger range on the menu isn't a massive one, but there are enough varieties there to give you what you want and not too many to make you indecisive. Their selection includes the classic beef, chicken, vegetarian, vegan and fish. Or you can opt for their sliders which come in beef, vegetarian, chicken and pork. There are no 'creative' ingredients with these burgers, mainly the usual lettuce, tomato, onion, grilled cheese and pickles.

If you don't feel like a burger then not to worry. They have traditional American BBQ dishes on offer including pork baby back ribs, beef short ribs and beef brisket. What's more, their tempting selection of pressed sandwiches and NY street food have been designed to satisfy appetites all around. Or if you're after steak and fries they have that too. Regardless, you're definitely spoilt for choice.

After perusing the menu for a good few minutes, I decided on the 5B hot burger - grass fed Angus beef with lettuce, tomato, red onion, pickles, jalapeno salsa and sriracha mayo, criss cross chips with chipotle mayo and iced tea.

The iced tea was served promptly and I was pleased that it wasn't sickly sweet. Soon after, the criss cross chips arrived, steam emanating from the bowl. We all eat with our eyes and I was so excited when I saw these chips. It was hot (the temperature kind), crispy and flavoursome. The chipotle mayo was an excellent blend of creamy, tangy and spicy - a splendid accompaniment to these chips. The only downside to the chips was that there was too much seasoning, making it a little too salty.

When my burger arrived it looked amazing. The first bite took me away to cloud nine. The beef was pink, soft and succulent, accompanied by the perfect amount of lettuce, tomato, red onion, pickles and grilled cheese. And the side of jalapeno peppers gave me the extra kick. The perfectly-balanced flavours danced on my tongue bite after bite. Before I knew it I'd finished it and was left with burger juices dripping down my hands. I know I ate the entire thing all too quickly, but it was just too good.

Overall, my first experience at 5 Boroughs was unbelievable. I slipped into a food coma but it was absolutely worth it. I'd recommend it too anyone wanting a finger-licking NY fare. I know I will be back for more.
