It's back again, the annual battle that pits neighbour against neighbour in the friendliest and prettiest competition in Brisbane. That's right, entries are now open for the [LINK=http://www.4kq.com.au/shows/xmaslights/highlights/4kq-christmas-lights-2013-entry].

This twinkling and sparkling event is the biggest Christmas lights competition and display in Australia and this year racks up its 27th appearance.

If you want to join hundreds of other south east Queenslanders in spreading the Christmas cheer you have until 5pm on Friday 22nd November to lodge your entry. You can download the entry form here .

This really is a competition for everyone. Do you live in a unit or townhouse? No problem, you can enter under the Townhouse/Unit/Apartment category. Do you think this is just a competition for oldies? Wrong, this year introduces an award for participants aged between 10 and 18. Do you think your contribution would be insignificant compared to the efforts of your neighbours? Nope. You can join with your neighbours to enter the Neighbourhood category. Other hotly contested categories include Best Synchronised Lights and Music Display, People's Choice Award, Best Environmentally Friendly Display, and Encouragement Award. There are prizes for residents in northern, southern, eastern and western suburbs, and you can win up to $1,000 in prize money.

Entries close on 22 November with preliminary judging set down for 25th to 28th November. Finalists' judging will occur from 28th November to 1st December, with the list of winners announced on Thursday 5th December. Winners announcements will be through 4KQ and the Courier Mail, with Quest Community newspapers also carrying the full list of entrants, so you can get out amongst all that Christmas colour.

Take the dog for a walk or pack the kids in the car from 5th December until Christmas Eve. Barring bad weather, properties throughout Brisbane and surrounds will be "lit up like a Christmas tree" between 7pm and 10pm every evening. After your viewing you may be inspired to cast your vote in the Peoples Choice Awards from 17th to 19th December.
