I am a world traveller & a mom of two, (8 & 6). I love to meet people, and am fascinated that there are 7 billion stories out there to be explored. I think Melbourne is the most happening city to live in with all the fun activities around town.

The 4th Dimension of the Movie Experience
The history of cinema is more than a hundred years old and we have come a very long day since its humble beginnings. From black and white, silent movies to 3D movies using ever more assistance of computer graphics for special effects, the innovation has kept the industry alive and kicking. Adding a fourth dimension to the movie-goers' experience has been a popular attraction for over a decade now, and the experience has now come to Melbourne (previously the 4D experience in Australia was available in Sydney at Sky Tower and Movie World in Gold Coast).
3D disposable glasses are provided
4D Dynamic Cinema, located in the heart of Melbourne City on Russell street, is the first of its kind to open in this city. What exactly is 4D cinema? The movie itself is a 3D projection where viewers wear the glasses to enhance their experience. Instead of sitting on regular seats as in the regular theatres, the seats in a 4D cinema are "interactive", which means they are equipped with special features. Not only the seats, but the theatre itself has unique special effects built into it. The experience is a combination of state of the art technology on the screen and the seat/theatre. 4D effects, such as water/foam spray, movement of the chair, gusts of wind blowing through your hair, etc. which are synchronised with the scenes of the movie add the extra layer of entertainment for audiences, especially the children. For example, if the movie is showing a scene of a person jumping off a plane in a skydiving adventure, the viewer of the movie will feel the effect of a free fall as well. These unique features make it a memorable experience for the visitor/viewer.
My children had the unique experience of their first 4D movie at Movie World recently, where a 15 minute video of Ice Age 4 was presented at the very jazzy Roxy Theatre. The anticipation while waiting to go into the theatre, wearing the glasses, not knowing what to expect... all this and more enhanced their first 4D movie time and they absolutely loved the thrill, giving it two thumbs up.
My personal first 4D experience was back in 1999 at the Disney store located on Fifth Avenue, New York (now closed). I remember being fascinated by the 5 minute Mickey movie and couldn't stop raving about it to everyone I met. Again, I had the experience in Atlanta a few years ago, and it was equally exciting.
The 3D movie itself takes the viewer as close to reality itself, but 4D actually makes you feel part of the adventure itself. The 4D experience is for viewers of all ages, however it comes with a word of caution for those who are sensitive to jerky movements (heart patients, pregnant women, etc.) and children must be accompanied by an adult.
There are several movies to choose from at the 4D Dynamic Cinema, such as a roller coaster ride, swimming with the sharks and much much more. Each movie session lasts about 10 minutes. Available sessions can be checked online. New movies are added frequently. The cinema is not as big as the size of a traditional auditorium style theater, but actually set in a more intimate space. Disposable 3D glasses are provided. Adult tickets cost $15, student/concession are $12 and children (<12) are $10.
