Featuring 150+ original artworks and exciting painting demonstrations - a feast for all art lovers!

The Watercolour Society of WA proudly presents its 44th Annual Awards Exhibition in an exciting new venue - Perth City Farm - this spring! All are welcome to come along and admire, discuss and purchase over 150 one-of-a-kind watercolour artworks by the Society's talented members. Entry is FREE.

The Watercolour Society Annual Awards Exhibition is at its heart a chance for artists from the Society to showcase their work to the wider general public and attain recognition through prizes awarded by the judges.

This year's event will be held from Thursday 5th to Sunday 8th of September 2024 and paintings will be judged in several categories including Best in Show, General, Still Life, Innovative and Abstract, Plein Air and the special category “Sustainability.” This special category will see artists encouraged to promote, through their paintings, ideas of sustainability which aligns beautifully with the ethos at Perth City Farm.

Social Plein Air Event

To kick off the 44th Annual Awards Exhibition, the Watercolour Society of WA is hosting a social Plein Air event where everyone is welcome to come along and join in the fun. Participation is free. Follow @watercolourswa on Facebook + @watercoloursocietywa on Instagram for all the latest.



The Opening Night on Thursday 5th September at 6.30 pm is open to all and will be opened by Jo Trilling of ABC Radio.

And if you are inspired by the exhibition, you are welcome to visit the 'Have a Go Table' table inviting the public to 'have a go' at watercolour painting with some help from a friendly Society member. Experiment with colour, experience different types of paper and watch how watercolour paint works with water. The 'Have a Go Table' table is subject to volunteers being available.

The ever-popular raffle is back as well and will again give a lucky person the chance to become the owner of an original fine artwork by a member of the Society.

Following the Opening Night, the exhibition will be open to the public on Friday 6th September 9 am -5 pm, Saturday 7th September 9 am - 4 pm, and conclude on Sunday 8th September 9 am - 2 pm.

There will be different demonstrations of watercolours during the exhibition. This is also an opportunity to have a chat with the artists, discover their inspirations and find out about how to join the Watercolour Society of WA.

Plus, make sure to place your vote for the People's Choice award and you will go into the draw to win a prize yourself!

All displayed artwork is available for sale at affordable prices - so why not add to your collection or purchase a thoughtful gift for a loved one - Christmas is just around the corner!

Sustainable Saturday

In conjunction with the City Farm Farmers Market, the Watercolour Society of WA is setting up still-life drawing/painting opportunities using the Farm's produce to encourage all to 'have a go.'

This historic and vibrant event is expected to attract artists and attendees from many suburbs and country areas to view art, paint and see what the City Farm has to offer, especially its collection of extensive education and information on sustainable practices.

Perth City Farm, which is a non-profit community environmental centre, will also contribute to this learning by providing opportunities for the general public to view their work. Take the opportunity to walk around the gardens, study the recycling centre and speak to volunteers and staff about their initiatives which build community connections, educate and enable people to live sustainably.
