Get Ready for Raunchy Laughs at Brisbane Powerhouse

Amber McMahon gets fruity in this hilarious comedy

Brisbane's comedy scene is about to get a whole lot steamier with the arrival of at Brisbane Powerhouse. May 16th to 25th, Brisbane-ites should buckle up for a rollercoaster ride of laughs, love, and some seriously unexpected twists in this apocalyptic rom-com that's guaranteed to leave you both blushing and belly laughing.

Written by the irreverently brilliant David Finnigan, whose previous work includes the infamous Kill Climate Deniers, this production promises to shock and awe in all the best ways possible. After wowing audiences at the Sydney Festival, it's finally making its much-anticipated debut in Brisbane as part of the 2024 Brisbane Comedy Festival.

So, what's the premise?

Celina, a journalist trapped in the monotony of writing clickbait for a lifestyle blog, is tasked with road testing a book titled The 44 Sex Acts that Will Change Your Life. The catch? She has to experience all 44 acts in one week, from BDSM to role-play, with the clock ticking relentlessly towards her Friday deadline.

But there's a twist: Celina's only available partner for this steamy experiment is none other than her arch-nemesis, Alab Delusa, a brooding animal activist and office mail boy. Can sworn enemies find common ground (and maybe even a spark) as they navigate the labyrinth of human desire? With no time to recover and plenty of friction between them, it's anyone's guess where this wild week will lead.

What sets this production apart is its innovative format. With six microphones, four knockout actors, and post-pandemic beats setting the mood, takes the concept of a radio play to a whole new level. Close your eyes (if you dare), let your ears be tantalized by foley effects, and brace yourself for a journey into the depths of desire and despair.

Given Finnigan's audacious script at the helm, you should expect the unexpected as intergenerational feminism meets the apocalypse, in a whirlwind of passion and hilarity.
