We all know how it is. Once the rent is paid, the groceries done and the fuel tank filled, there isn't much left over to take your special someone out for an evening of frivolity. It doesn't have to be that way though. It is possible to go on a date with the spare change you can rummage up from underneath the couch. Here's my top 4:

1. Catch a movie at the Cineplex
Cineplex cinemas are at Southbank, Hawthorne, Balmoral and Victoria Point. With tickets at only $8.50, you can even splash out on a box of popcorn. Go on a Tuesday night for even cheaper tickets and to be able to afford a frozen coke as well.

2. Fish and Chips on the Deckchairs at Southbank
Grab some fish and chips from the Decks Takeaway and enjoy them whilst relaxing on the deckchairs underneath the fairylights along Southbank's Little Stanley Street. Afterwards, take a walk along the river to see the lights on the Casino and Kurilpa Bridge.

3. Picnic in the Botanic Gardens
Pack a bag with whatever you can find in the kitchen and jump on a ferry to the City Botanic Gardens for a picnic on the grass. On the ferry trip home, pick out your favourite riverside mansion to buy when you win lotto.

4. Latin Dancing in the City
Frock up and head into the city on a Friday night for free Latin dance classes at Reddacliffe Place at the top of the Queen Street Mall. Professional dancers shake up the dance-floor from 7pm before the lessons start at 8pm. Afterwards you can spend your $20 on $3 daiquiris at the Casino nearby or throw it into the pokies and hope you win big.
