Go Crazy with Crunchy Spiced Taiwanese Fried Snacks
Taiwanese-style fried chicken has hit Sydney and it's never tasted this good. It is the latest snack craze in Sydney. This is a popular iconic street food originate from Taiwan's night markets and Sydneysiders are embracing these golden deep-fried chicken morsels.

Newest Fried Chicken Rage - 3Q Chicken

3Q Chicken is a smallish shop-front is geared for quick takeaway service and there is no room for sit-down option. It is conveniently located next to the George Street Event Cinema.

The most popular items on the menu are the Taiwanese-style fried chicken bites ($5.90) and the giant fried chicken schnitzel with oozing cheese ($8.50).

A queue is expected as they make each to order so that the chicken is freshly deep-fried. It's worth the wait but be warned of a piping hot first bite.

We placed our orders and waited patiently in line. The service was a bit slow so I recommended that you allow 5-10 minutes wait time.

The Taiwanese-style chicken bites were seasoned with 5-spiced herbs. The first thing I noticed was the aromatic smell, especially with fried basil leaves. It looked like a little pile of golden nuggets, deep fried to crispy crunchy and dusted with the special Taiwanese seasoning.

They were moreishly crunchy and the 5-spices flavour has the addictive quality where you can't stop at one. The chicken bites were just a bit on the dry side and was not as juicy and moist as I liked. Having said that, the flavours were intense and utterly delicious.

We also ordered some curly fries and deep-fried cuttlefish balls.

The curly fries were fantastic. Dusted in special-spiced salt and pepper, they were so addictive. They were crispy crunchy and wiggly curly on the outside and fluffy soft on the inside. It was a fun potato snack.

We ordered the fried squid balls because it was highly recommended. Essentially they were just deep fried squid balls coated in a sheer batter. However they tasted amazing. The bite-sized squid balls were juicy, crispy, and packed with flavour.

It was hard to decide which one I liked the best, but they were all finger licking good. They were the perfect tasty snack during the day or late at night and especially after a few drinks.

These fragrant Taiwanese street snacks were served in a canteen-style paper bag. In my opinion, the canteen paper bag did not passed the grease test but the staff did recommended that 3Q chicken should be consumed within 5 minutes.

For a take away shop, we found the wait was slightly excessive and the staff lacked training in customer service. Having said that, a good fried chicken is so hard to find these days.

3Q Chicken is a delicious, easy, quick, (maybe not so healthy) snack stop, it is getting phenomenally popular. I see people snacking on these addictive chicken bites while walking down George street.

Stop by before or after the movie session and indulge yourself in a bag of bite-size chicken snack. The taste may haunt you and you would make a special trip into the city to satisfy your fried chicken cravings.

It is open till late and best suited for that hangover cure for the Friday night drinkers.

Hello GMV, not sure I should thank you for such an interesting article - I'm on a diet! The food sounds great and if I ever make my goal weight and I'm in Sydney I'll be looking for 3Q. Thanks, Tony
