Three dimensional cinema gained popularity in the 1980's with releases like Jaws 3D, and began to enter the mainstream in the late noughties. These days, many films are given a 3D release and many local cinemas screen movies in 3D. See 3D movies at these cinemas in Brisbane.

The Dendy is a national cinema chain that screens a range of mainstream, classic and cult movies. The Dendy Portside's 3D cinema is the only one in Brisbane that uses the XpanD 3D model. Tickets to this cinema are $19.00 for adults, $16.00 for students and $15.00 for a child.

Event cinemas, which encompasses Greater Union and Birch Carroll and Coyle, screens 3D movies at their cinemas in Brisbane Myer Centre, Browns Plains, Capalaba, Carindale, Chermside, Garden City and Indooroopilly. Tickets are $18.50 for adults, $15.50 for students and $14.50 for seniors and children.

Hoyts at Stafford and Sunnybank also offer 3D cinema and a long list of movies to choose from. Tickets are $20 for adults and students and $16 for children, but you can save a dollar if you recycle your 3D glasses.

There are some movies that you have to see on the big screen, and some movies are so epic that they need to be viewed in 3D.
