A Grand Building for a Great City
333 Collins Street, Melbourne CBD.

Resplendent. Few other words come to mind to sufficiently describe 333 Collins Street.

The neo-Gothic tower is one of the finest buildings in Melbourne, standing tall in any number of post cards, alongside 101 Collins St, Collins Tower, The Rialto and The Eureka Tower.

Built in 1993, the tower of the building was built over prior incarnations of banks that have existed on site since 1866.
In this way, the building site conveys equally a history and timelessness. The steely facade conveys a very modern presence with its height and presence, while the interior defers to a classical design.

Objectively speaking, there is little to do once inside the building - save for admiring the structure itself. Nonetheless, there is much to keep your eyes busy, even if just for a few moments.

While the original 'anchor' tenant ANZ have since relocated their world headquarters further down Collins St, it is clear much pride in the building remains and endures. This is visible from the scale model of the tower that occupies a proud place in the lobby. For architectural buffs this is a work that encourages much time to be spent gazing upon it.

This is a building that would not be out of place among the skyscrapers of a city like New York, Tokyo or Shanghai and is very much worth a walk through when in the Melbourne CBD.

Further, should you be on a 'bank history binge' one day in the city; then the ANZ Gothic Bank and Banking Museum just down the block makes for a good add-on.

Been there, taken photos. It is truly magic. Great architecture, certainly unlike the disaster that is Docklands.

Hi Genet,
Thank you for comment; can agree 333 is special:) By contrast, can it be asked what about the Docklands dosen't do it for you? What would you like to see improved? E
