I have to admit I was a little concerned when I first saw the Lonsdale Street Cafe, because from the outside it looked a bit on the shabby side, and I wanted to show my brother that Canberra can do food on his visit. However, since we were both hungry we decided to give it a crack and proceeded to go into the cafe. As there was no table service, we choose a table near the heater and began to examine the menu.

There were some great options on the menu including Eggs Benedict, Bacon and Egg Roll, Corn and Haloumi Fritters and Salmon Eggs. I couldn't actually decide between the four as they all sounded great, so I ended up flipping a coin and ordering Salmon Eggs and chai tea.



After ordering, the drinks came out quite quickly and I was surprised by just how big the teapot was, but I didn't mind as I got a number of cups of tea out of it! As I drank my delicious tea, I noticed that the cafe was filled with a few groups but also a number of young families. Since the cafe had a relaxed and laid back vibe, I wasn't surprised that so many young families were there for Saturday brunch.



Shortly, after our breakfasts came out. My poached eggs were cooked perfectly and nothing like the ones I try to make at home. There was also sufficient smoked salmon for both pieces of toast. I also loved the broccolini and tomatoes that came with the meal, as they added another layer of texture to the dish. It all came together to create a great dish.



My brother also loved his dish, he ordered the big breakfast, and he was happy with the variety of food on his plate. He told me over breakfast, he can be disappointed at times when he orders a big breakfast, as sometimes there isn't much variety.

Once the dishes were cleared away, I finished the last of my tea, and we headed to the door with bellies full of delicious food. I suppose It just goes to show looks can be deceiving!
