In partnership with Leichhardt Women's Community Health Centre and Women in Leadership Leichardt, Leichhardt Council is holding International Womens Day Celebrations at Pioneers Memorial Park. The theme of this years celebrations is: 'Step It Up For Gender Equality' which is all about heeding the call for gender parity.
The celebrations in Leichhardt will be more than just a gathering. There will be entertainment as well as a 'Twilight Supper in The Park' as the sun is going down - including light refreshments for attendees with a glass of champagne.
The event also includes a panel discussion featuring a number of leaders. One of the notable speakers is Reverand Dorothy McRae McMahon. She was the first woman to be Moderator of the World Council of Churches Worship Committee and has written liturgy for churches in six countries. She has been awarded the Jubilee Medal for work with women in NSW in 1977, among many other accomplishments. Other speakers include Julie McCrossin, Dr Rae Cooper and Emily Dash.
Pioneers Memorial Park is a great venue for the celebrations, being centrally located in Leichhardt, and having some great play equipment for the little ones while parents enjoy the celebrations.
