If you know anyone who suffers from Coeliac Disease or happen to be a sufferer yourself, the 7th annual Gluten Free Expo is a must for you. Presented by the Coeliac Society of NSW, the Gluten Free Expo is Australia's largest, and most successful annual gluten free show.
Lots of information and support
Coeliac disease is a permanent and significant medical condition in which the lining of the small intestine is damaged by gluten. Sufferers are born with a pre-disposition to the coeliac gene. Those who suffer from this disease - approximately 1 in 100 people - cannot tolerate any food containing gluten. It can have some serious consequences and cause great discomfort if not managed - and because there is no cure, the only way to manage the disease is to stick strictly to a gluten free lifestyle. Gluten is a protein component of wheat, rye, barley and oat, so it can be a tricky disease to manage, as much of the food we eat is made from, or contains those products.
As with all great expos, there will be lots to see and do. It's a free event for the public, showcasing a wide variety of gluten free products, available to purchase and taste.
There are also a number of services including informative talks, seminars and live cooking demonstrations.
The expo will be attended by numerous authors, medical professionals and chefs. Teresa Cutter, the popular 'Healthy Chef', a regular on Channel 7's Sunrise and writer for several health publications, will be demonstrating her delicious healthy recipes.
