This race day revel in hops and horses and a free meal at one of fifteen participating restaurants and cafes in Top Ryde's Piazza. With a big screen to catch the race live and plenty more fun happening, it's time to cheer your favourites on and enjoy a great afternoon.
In the midst of this great shopping centre, 1 in 2 will receive lunch on the house with this offer valid between 11am to 3pm on Melbourne Cup day. Purchase one main meal and get the second free with the second meal being of equal or lesser value. Drinks not included. Eat-in only.
Eateries include:-
Bar Angolo – sit out in the sunshine at this corner cafe that gets you authentic Italian pizza, pasta, focaccias, seafood, chicken, salads, gelato, waffles and coffee as well as sparkling wine, spirits, cocktails, soft drinks, milkshakes and fresh juices.
Bondi Pizza – for classic and signature pizzas, pastas, prawns, chicken wings, meatballs and a 'to die for' range of desserts with beers, spirits, wines, champagne, cocktails and sangria jugs washing down your meal.
Coco Cubano – where you can Havana good time with their signature tapas, nachos, burritos, Chilli BBQ Pork Belly and other Cuban flavours along with classic Aussie burgers and fries, steak and ribs. Beverages include beers, ciders, rums, wines and cocktails by the glass or jugs for the adults whilst the kids will love the iced fruit granitas and the crazy shakes topped with sweets.
Coffee Traders – a boutique roaster of fine espresso also serving up burgers, antipasto plates, chicken and chorizo meals, eggs and avo with sourdough, sausages, meat pies, spring rolls, prawn parcels, pancakes and pastries. Alcohol is available in the form of wines, spirits and beers.
Euro Taste Cafe – serving up modern European dishes that include spicy Napoli chicken, roasted quail with coleslaw, barramundi, BBQ chicken and beef skewers.
Guzman Y Gomez – all things Mexican with slow roasted meats in tacos, burritos, enchiladas, fajitas, nachos and quesadillas, a salsa station plus churros for dessert. Mexican beers and frozen margaritas go down well (they certainly did with us).
Hurricanes Grill & Bar – specialise in premium beef steaks, pork & lamb ribs and BBQ chicken marinated in sauces originating from South Africa. There's also burgers, seafood, vegetarian dishes, salads, and desserts. For drinks, there's wines and cocktails.
Lan Yuan – Cantonese cuisine, in a setting inspired by traditional bamboo gardens, with yum cha and a la carte dining. Delicious rice and noodles, fresh seafood, duck and chicken dishes are just some of what you can get here in contemporary flavours paired with boutique beers, wines and cocktails.
Outback Jacks Bar & Grill – a taste of Australia with a large range of juicy steaks to be had along with ribs, croc burgers, kangaroo skewers, salmon, chicken wings and wedges, pastas, corn on the cob, cheese n chips (loved these with the bacon pieces when I was there), wraps and other delights. For dessert, there's brownies, sticky date pudding, raspberry cheesecake and apple pie. Drink-wise, there's liquered coffees, soft drinks, beers, sangria and more.
Platia Greek Taverna – rich flavours that whisk you away to the isles of the Meditteranean (one can dream) in a fusion of Greek and Cypriot cuisine that includes grilled octopus, moussaka, zucchini and pumpkin fritters, spinach and cheese pie, beef stifado (stew), lamb souvlaki, chicken Santorini, and prawn spaghetti. Your meal wouldn't be complete without a traditional Greek salad and dessert. Sweet tooths can enjoy Baklava, Galaktoboureko (filo pastry with semolina custard), Karithopita (walnut cake), Tahini chocolate mousse, strawberries Platia, Poached Pear in Sammos dessert wine and more.
Red Spoon Thai – bringing modern Thai and Asian fusion dishes balanced with wines and cocktails. In this chic atmosphere you can choose from Thai salad, chilli relish, stir-fried meals, curries and soups. They have a la carte and banquet menus.
Rustic Cafe – a family business brewing coffee and making flaky crusted pies, savoury and sweet. The latter includes cherry pies and banoffee tart.
Schnitz – not only is there chicken schnitzel here but also beef, fish and vegetarian schnitzels on plates with chips, on rolls and wraps. There's lots of great variations with interesting names, such as Status Quo, Hawaii Five-0, American Dream, Fiery Turban, Parmageddon (my son can vouch for this one, said it was the best Parmigiana he'd ever had and he has had a lot), Garden of Eden and Thai the Knot. There's also gourmet salads, chips, strips and dips.
Smokkim – Korean BBQ's are popping up everywhere around Ryde and at food festivals and this popular one is pleasing with dishes infusing amazing flavours and share tasting platters. From the Grill Bar, taste spatchcock, seafood, sausages, Tasmanian lamb cutlets and lobster. A Raw Bar serves up oysters, beef sashimi and seared wagyu tenderloin. Then there's pork belly, crab, barramundi, quail and burgers. Desserts include Green tea Pannacotta, rice wine sorbet and pumpkin cheesecake.
Sushi Roll – combining rice with mixtures of crab meat, salmon, eel and a whole lot more. Individual tables abound as well as a sushi train.
That's a lot of good choices. Click

Prior to the race screening at 3pm, you can also enjoy live music and take part in Fashions on the Field activities. For the littlies, there's Go Pony Races to keep them entertained.
An onsite TAB is available for you to place your bets and hopefully win big in the race that stops the nation. Any tips on a winner? Comment in the box at the bottom.
