I had read conflicting reviews about 16th on Park Bistro and Dessert Café before I went to try it for myself. The menu certainly sounded delish and inviting. If you have a bit of a sweet tooth, then it's that kind of place that you don't want to palm off.
Apart from the usual breakfast, lunch, dinner, and kids' menus, they also have a wicked dessert menu and a gourmet hot chocolate potions menu. I was there for brunch and I looked forward to trying one of the wicked dessert options. Neither did I want to miss out on trying a gourmet hot chocolate drink.
I had the creamy omelette on sourdough ($14) and the traditional dark hot chocolate ($6), while my friend had the chicken burger ($15). The meals were good, although I found mine was disproportionate to the price – it was a single slice of sourdough bread with omelette, a couple of slices of tomatoes and some spattering of chocolate sauce on the plate. The hot chocolate drink looked and tasted more like milk than chocolate, and I have had better ones.
The service was desultory. It was also both efficient and slow. The staff were quick to take our orders and to bring us the main meals. I had to find our cutlery as there was none on our table. We eventually had to give up on ordering dessert as no one came back to take our orders. It was a bit disappointing, but then I had realised why the place was getting conflicting reviews.
