Having spent the last few years living abroad I now wish to rediscover my home city of Sydney to keep that 'travelling feeling' and share my findings with those that might want a bit of inspiration.

Get bang for your buck Pizza, drink and maybe a pool plunge
Now whilst it's economical to bring your lunch to work everyday, it's not always practical, neither is it necessarily the most enjoyable. However, during the summer months, one is often hard-pressed to afford lunch in a nice outdoor setting; and ends up reverting to the brown bag from home or tried-and-true food-courts for a meal and drink that will come in under $15.
The Ivy Complex Pool Club Bar is surprisingly the venue that helps you achieve the somewhat impossible in Sydney's CBD. For a measly $15 you are provided your choice from the pizza, panini and salad menu along with a glass of house wine, house beer or soft-drink Tuesdays to Fridays. Click here for the meal deal menu.
With the pizzas usually coming in at $18 a pop, the offer is sensational. Not only do you get fed and hydrated, but you can also almost forget that work is at the other side of your lunch hour. Just take a seat at one of the many tables and sun-loungers that fringe the pool edge and mentally fly away to a Californian beach resort on the wings of some relaxing tunes. For those who fancy a quick dip, yes indeed, people do swim here but ensure you bring your best swimming costume as the pool is the focal point of the venue.
With two visits in under two weeks I expected to be let down at some point, either with service, patrons or food, however I am yet to find fault. Where I expected to find pretentious 'beautiful people', I found lovely groups of friends, one in particular who offered us their table in the shade as they were leaving (an amazingly thoughtful gesture in 44 degree heat). The pizzas were large enough to be shared by two and were smothered in molten baked goodness, whilst the staff gave exceptionally friendly low-key service. My two picks were the Salsiccia pizza with sausage, gorgonzola, radicchio, cherry tomato and pistachio nuts (now rating highly in my top five pizzas ever), and the prosciutto pizza, which was also lovely.
For a relaxing midday meal in a location which makes you forget your central Sydney workplace, head to the Ivy Pool – particularly whilst this lunch deal is on. You'll return to work full, hydrated and best of all, relaxed from your one hour holiday-resort vacation.
