Following the sold-out success of their award-nominated and critically acclaimed productions of Singin' in the Rain, Little Shop of Horrors, Xanadu, and Oliver!, the Adelaide Theatre Academy is back - with 13 brilliant reasons to go to the theatre these school holidays!
Their latest production, 13: The Musical, comes to the Goodwood Institute stage on October 10 and 11 for four performances only. Tickets are now on sale.
13: The Musical is a hilarious coming-of-age story about discovering that "cool" is sometimes where we least expect it. Written by composer-lyricist Jason Robert Brown and librettists Dan Elish and Robert Horn, 13: The Musical is the only Broadway musical ever with a cast and band entirely made of teenagers.
The book by Elish and Horn is a series of vignettes which explore 13-year-old Evan Goldman's efforts to deal with culture shock and dramatic life changes. From school hallways to the movie theatre, each scene gives us additional insights into a delightful array of vibrant and fascinating characters.
The musical score brilliantly evokes the excitement, passion and anxiety of the teenage years and boasts wonderful songs with a universal appeal such as 'What It Means To Be A Friend', 'The Lamest Place In The World', and 'A Little More Homework'.
The Adelaide Theatre Academy production has an outstanding creative team led by Matt Houston as Director, Georgia Brass & Jemma Allen as Choreographers and Millicent Sarre and Ben Francis as Musical Directors.
Matt Houston (Director) says, "13 is all about the emotional ups and downs of high school. It's a wonderful story about finding friends in places you never expected. It's about meeting people from diverse communities. Whether they be the cool kids, the geeks, or even the goths, Evan is on a journey towards understanding who his real friends are."
