Doors hold a certain fascination for us. They can be the end of something, or they can be a beginning or a journey. We don't know what is on the other side but are tempted to open doors, especially those that have a certain appeal, be it age, style, size colour or decoration. Sliding doors, as featured in the film of the same name, can present different options too
As part of the Melbourne Arts Festival and from the talented team that brought last year's Melbourne Festival hit, House of Mirrors, 1000 Doors will entrance, haunt and transform you.
There are doors, portals, gateways, screens, any manner of possibilities to enter, and exit and wonder about where you are and who may have also been there.
The duo behind this exhibition and experience, Christian Wagstaff and Keith Courtney, began collecting doors a few years ago; some were salvaged while some were donations. All combine in the creation of a labyrinth with a whiff of haunted house atmosphere, complete with signs of decay, signs of the past and a haunting soundtrack.
1000 Doors is open from 10 am to 10 pm from 2-21 October 2018 and costs $ 0 to enable you to open the first door. If you would like to check out the entire program of the festival here it is - Melbourne Arts Festival.
