Live Life Villages', Brookland Village at 18 Rombulus Street, Robertson has arranged a remarkable presentation to commemorate 100 Years of Service in war-time by Australians from Gallipoli to Afghanistan. The exhibition consists of memorabilia provided by family, friends, residents and staff of the village and offers a moving and unique tribute during this ANZAC centenary year.

The 100 Years of Service display will be open to the public from 10.00am to 3.00pm from Tuesday 21 until Friday 24 April, 2015 in the Brookland Village Community Centre at the end of the entry drive.

Then on Saturday, 25 April, 2015, everybody is invited to join the residents and staff at their ANZAC Day Commemorative Service at the Brookland Village, Robertson commencing at 6.30am. This very moving service is held around the Village flag and memorial and is open to the residents, staff, resident's families and the general public and will be followed by a sausage sizzle breakfast with tea and Anzac biscuits, with profits being donated to Legacy.

Entry to the exhibit is free as it is being conducted as a mark of respect to all those who have served to protect the freedoms we enjoy.

The truly inspiring aspect of the exhibit is that the memorabilia on display has been provided by extraordinary, 'ordinary' Australians and is mostly treasured and personal possessions of the residents and staff. This is not a museum display but one of personal service.

To add interest for visitors the display will be divided into the various major theatres of war where the donors or their relatives have served. There are sections relating to World War 1, World War 2, Korea, Malaysia, Vietnam and The Gulf. Additional posters and displays provided by Live Life Villages will be on display

Some of the items being shown include a World War I soldier's bible belonging to a staff member. The bible was originally presented to her grandfather in 1916 and then to her father by his mother when he was deployed as an ambulance driver in World War 2.

There is an original letter from a soldier serving in the Pacific written on 'Australian Comfort Fund' note paper which includes a quirky necklace made of shells strung together with aircraft wire.

You will also see the Ensign flown by HMAS Sydney during her deployment to the Gulf War, along with a helmet from the Vietnam War. Then there are the symbols of service most cherished by those who earned them and these are the medals and badges proudly worn during a life well spent.

The most poignant display will be that of the Village's late resident, Joe Dacey who passed away last year. Joe was an original Dambuster who flew the Lancaster bombers and helped destroy the dams in the Ruhr and Eder valleys. He had been keen to take part in this commemorative display. Joe laid a wreath at last year's ANZAC Day Service in the village and will be greatly missed this year.

There is also a Wall of Remembrance of photographs and service records of locals made available to the Village by the Sunnybank Plaza Shopping Centre.

To ensure your visit is enjoyable as well as inspiring the residents and staff will not only be providing the displays of memorabilia but also entertainment and refreshments. Musical entertainment depicting the era will be performed and a replica 'Home Front Canteen' will be on-site selling tea, coffee and light refreshments. The residents have crafted and will be selling, commemorative red poppies. The funds raised from the sale of the craft and the 'Home Front Canteen' will be donated to Legacy.

The exhibition is meant to be a family event held as a mark of respect to all who have joined in the 100 Years of Service.
