2015 marks the centenary of the ANZAC story, and throughout Australia hundreds of events have been planned to glorify the young men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice, and to ensure that their legacy is never lost. With Anzac Day just around the corner, now is the perfect time for children to learn or to be reminded about the Anzac legend, and to heighten their understanding and appreciation, the City of Perth has organised a wonderful free family event, 100 Years of Anzac, which will take place at three locations around the city.

Beautifully conceived and presented, 100 Years of Anzac will consist of a wide variety of installations, storytelling, poetry, performance, dance, and broadcasts on the big screen, that will appeal to and inform people of all ages. There will also be plenty of interactive activities for children, so that they can learn about this important episode of Australian history in a fun dynamic way.

100 Years of Anzac will take place at three locations over a few days. Read below to learn more about what's happening, and when.

Perth Cultural Centre
Situated in the heart of Perth's most exciting cultural space, 100 Years of Anzac will encompass a variety of exciting things to see and do. Some of the creative activities that you can get involved with include rosemary wreath making with Awesome Arts, poppy knitting and origami peace crane making. For vintage-lovers, there will also be a classic 1900s photo booth, and on Sunday only, a Family History Discovery. You can also write a message to a serviceperson for the Remembrance Arch, or send it off in a bottle on the Peace Pond.

For those who want to immerse themselves in the historical significance of ANZAC, there will be an exhibition of historic photographs and live broadcasts on the big screen of the King's Park Dawn Service, Perth Troop March and the Gallipoli Service. Entertainment will include military drills and performances by pipe and drum bands, while an authentic recreation of a WW1 army encampment, complete with daily troop drills, bell tent and nurse's station, will be sure to fascinate and inform visitors, old and young.

These events will be taking place on Saturday April 25th (12 noon until 4pm), as well as from 10am until 4pm on Sunday April 26th and Monday April 27th.

Forrest Place
Over in the heart of Perth's shopping district, Forrest Place will also present a host of activities to celebrate our ANZAC heritage on Monday, April 27, from 10am until 4pm. Live entertainment will include Perth's Australian Army Band, Jake Dennis and the Mint Jazz Band and the City of Perth Brass Band, playing classic songs of the era that celebrate the ANZAC legend and express the sentiments the of time such as hope, courage, and ultimately, the joy of victory.

For creative folk, young and old, there will poppy-making and badge-making workshops, while a heritage display by the Australian Red Cross will celebrate the contribution of this distinguished group.

Northbridge Piazza
There will also be lots of fun things to see and do over in Northbridge Piazza on Monday, April 27th. At 1pm there will be a free family movie on the big screen, or if you're feeling daring, you can get your hair done in a vintage style.

However, be sure to bring along your dancing shoes, as from 2.30pm there will be a free swing dancing class, followed by an energetic performance by the experts. Live music will be courtesy of the Perth Swing Dance Society and provided by vintage band the Cottontail Trio, who will invoke the musical ambiance of wartime 1940s with their catchy tunes and dance moves.
