Ideas to make your Halloween party the talk of the town
Australia may not be very big on Halloween. However come October 31st, one is always tempted to throw a Halloween bash. And it's not too hard making your Halloween party the talk of the town. All you need is some creativity. Avoiding Halloween clichés like the Playboy bunny or the Devil costumes is hard. And that's where a theme helps. Choosing a theme not only helps make your party unique, but also adds a fun element. It forces everyone to think of creative interpretations. Adding some theme based decorations and snacks also ups the fun element !

Here are some ideas for a Halloween Theme Party:

1) Game Theme
When dealing with a younger crowd who are hard core gamers, a Game theme seems like a perfect choice. The boys are spoilt for choice with options such as World of Warcarft Death Knight Rune Blade, Mario, Price of Persia, or even a characters from Mortal Combat, Halo, Call of Duty etc. For the girls, think Lara Croft, Princess Rosalina, Princess Zelda, Alyx Vance, Chun - Li etc
Party Size - Medium Group
Age - Teens to young adults

2) iPhone Apps
If you want to step away from the movie characters and celebraties theme then here is a simple idea. With the Iphone being so popular, why not make it a theme for your Halloween Party? Invite your friends to choose an App and put their own creative spin on it. Some options could be Facebook, Pinterest, Google Maps, Youtube, Angry Birds, Imdb, Skype etc. To make this theme even more fun, you could create a fake Iphone using simple cardboard and markers and hang it from the wall. You could then invite your guests to stand behind the phone and have their picture taken!

3) Pixar
This is an easy one. Every Pixar film has given us heaps of infamous characters. This one would be especially suitable for a party with families. Think Sulley, Mike and Boo (Monsters Inc.) or Carl, Ellie and Russell (Up) and so on. With 13 Pixar films to choose one, you really cant go wrong with this one!
Party Size - Large Group
Age - All (especially suitable for families)

4) Johnny Depp
This one is definitely for the Johnny Depp fans. This great actor has played many weirdly brilliant characters over the years, making him a perfect theme for a Halloween party. Options with this theme inclue: Edward Scissorhands, Captain Jack Sparrow, Willy Wonka, Glen Lantz, Gilbert Grape, Ichabod Crane, Sweeney Todd, The Mad Hatter etc
Party Size - Medium Group

5) Food
If you want to stay away from fake blood and fangs, this might be an option for you. Guests would be invited to dress up as their favourite food items. Think burger (would work well for 3 people), Milk cartoon, Instant noodles etc.

6) Dr Seuss
This is one for both the adults and kids. Almost all of us have read the Dr Seuss books or have atleast seen the movies. This creative genius has given us so many characters to choose from: The things one and things two, the Cat in the Hat, the Once-ler, the Whos, the Grinch, Audrey, the Lorax, Horton etc

7) Tim Burton
Another one for the film fans is Tim Burton. This director is famous for his quirky and dark films making him a good theme for a Halloween Party. Some of his most famous films include Beetlejuice, The Nightmare Before Christmas, Ed Wood, Sleepy Hallow, Dark Shadows, Corpse Bride etc

8) Tv Shows
A TV show theme is great if you have a large number of guests. The sheer number of popular TV shows gives guests hundreds of options to choose from. The chances of two people dressing up as the same person will be quite low. Options could include characters from Dr Who, Game of Thrones, Desperate Housewives, Scrubs, 24, Battlestar Galactica, Glee etc
Party Size - Large Group
Age - All

9) Music Celebrities
These days musical celebrities can be easily recognisable with their Cone bras, purple hair or Red lace. Everyone loves music and dressing up as your favourite singer could be really fun. Some options could be Madonna, Michael Jackson, Katy Perry, Russel Brad, Avril Lavigne and heaps more

10) Murder Mystery Theme Party
This one does require a lot of preparation on the host's side but is definitely one that your guests will really enjoy. At the start of the party pretend to stage the death of a close friend or your partner. Have this person then change into a ghost costume and give your guests one clue to start off with. Each clue is a puzzle that will lead the person to the location of the next clue. Eventually the clues will lead to the murder weapon and with it, to the killer.
