Brisbane is a dynamic city with many interesting activities for locals and tourists alike. In the evening, Brisbane comes alive with many attractions to enjoy and many of them are completely free!

1. Walks in Brisbane City

There are many interesting walk itineraries to do in the evening. Brisbane is very suggestive when the sun goes down and all the lights of the city light up.

The Wheel of Brisbane is gorgeous in the evening when the giant circle is completely illuminated against the dark sky. The Wheel of Brisbane is an excellent starting point to walk in direction of the Kurilpa Bridge, West End, towards Victoria Bridge, Story Bridge and Goodwill Bridge. Any point of the Brisbane City could be a starting point.

2. James Turrell Night Life permanent free exhibition

James Turrell Night Life is a free permanent art exhibition at GOMA, Gallery of Modern Art. As soon as the night sets in, James Turrell's Night Life 2018 brightens up GOMA from within. The lights change colours and intensity and this light dynamic is the realisation of the architect's vision of GOMA to animate the building in the night.

Enjoy this free exhibition in Stanley Pl, South Brisbane QLD 4101.

Artist James Turrell is from the United States and he is specialised in working with lights and spaces. His creations aim to show how people are affected by light. James Turrell specialises in large scale luminous installations, indoor and outdoor, which attract visitors from everywhere to admire the artworks. James Turrell art exhibition's at GOMA runs from sunset to midnight.









3. Swim in the free swimming pool at South Bank

There are a few swimming pools at South Bank completely free. The sparkling lagoon, is very tantalizing, especially in the warm Brisbane summer evenings. Bring your own swimmers, a towel and a pair of right footwear and have a dip. Showers and change rooms are also available.

To make it even a great evening you can use the free barbecues and enjoy a meal outdoor under the stars.

The pools are open all year round from 7am to midnight.









Near the swimming pool, there is a colourful structure. It looks like a sort of a cage but when you enter, there are chairs to relax in and music starts to play.



4. Grab your bicycle for a ride in town

There are many options for a great ride by pushbike. Altogether there are many km of bikeways in Brisbane City. You can also ride on many bridges, like the Story Bridge, Go Between Bridge, Kurilpa Bridge, Goodwill Bridge and Victoria Bridge.































5. Friday night late shopping in Brisbane City

Brisbane City on Friday night pulses with many department stores and shopping centres open later than usual. The shops stay open till late and you can have fun strolling in Queen Street Mall and window shopping. It is important that you don't take with you your credit card, otherwise, you may be tempted and the activity won't be free anymore.

Queen Street Mall and the streets in Brisbane City offer an array of shops and it is fun when the sun goes down and the bright lights in the city go up.

Queen Street Mall is an area dedicated to pedestrians. The mall extends approximately 500 metres from George Street to Edward Street. With more than 700 retailers and over 40,000 square metres of retail space, which includes six major shopping centres, it's like walking in one huge exotic bazaar.

6. Roma Street Parkland

Roma Street Parkland offers a series of well-defined trails in the park. There is plenty of artificial illumination so you can walk safely on the tracks.









7. Epicurious Gardens at Southbank

Epicurious is a garden run by volunteers at Southbank Parkland. It is free to visit and it's open every day, all day, all year round.

The volunteers grow all sorts of herbs, vegetables, fruits and small trees. Everyone is invited to look at the gardens, but please don't pick the produce. Only the volunteers harvest the ripe fruits, the vegetables when they are ready and the herbs and put them into a harvest cart in some mornings during the week.

The name Epicurious come from Epicurean, the philosophy of pursuing a good life. Epicurious Gardens intends to inspire and educate people to grow plants at home and harvest their own products.

Epicurious is very attractive in the night. There is also a very suggestive little fountain on a pond where the ibises try to find some food.













8. Brisbane City Botanic Gardens.

Explore in the evening the beautiful Brisbane Botanic Gardens. walking or riding your bike.

The City Botanic Gardens have many attractions, including beautiful displays of flowers which stands out greatly in the evening.

In particular, there is also an area dedicated to a bamboo grove, weeping fig trees and ponds with fountains.

Back in 1825, in Brisbane convict colony, the gardens were cultivated by the convicts to provide food for the colony. In 1828, the botanist Charles Fraser choose the site to become a public garden. Today, the City Gardens are the oldest and feature many rare and unusual botanic species.

In the City Botanic Gardens, it is easy to spot wildlife, especially ringtail possums and curlews.







9. Hop on the CityHopper!

The City Hopper is a city ferry service runs by the Brisbane City Council. The CityHopper is completely free, it runs regularly every 30 minutes between 5.30am to midnight, seven days a week.

It includes six stops between North Quay and Sydney Street in New Farm. It does include South Bank, Maritime Museum, Riverside Ferry Terminal and Holman Street Ferry Terminal. Hop on and off the CityHopper and enjoy a free ride in Brisbane City.













10. Have a picnic or a barbeque.

There are so many places where you can have awesome picnics. Southbank has free barbecues and it is a terrific place to enjoy a delicious meal just sitting on the grass or on the benches.

Pack some great healthy foods and a blanket. Kangaroo Point is also a suitable spot for a picnic with stunning views over the Brisbane River and the City.
