Having spent the last few years living abroad I now wish to rediscover my home city of Sydney to keep that 'travelling feeling' and share my findings with those that might want a bit of inspiration.

Bang for your buck
As we move into the winter months, getting bang for your buck during mid-week dining has never been easier. Many of our local bars and restaurants now have specific mid-week specialties at rock-bottom prices to encourage patrons to stay out a little later. Here are some of our Wednesday wallet-friendly favourites at $10 or less.
Bungalow 8; King Street Wharf
Occupying the northern end of King Street Wharf is old-time favourite Bungalow 8. Popular with the well-heeled and suits midweek and the glamorous on the weekends. this waterfront venue serves up three options for only $10 for lunch and dinner Monday to Wednesday.
Bungalow Beef Burger served with chips, Panko crumbed John Dory served with chips and lime wasabi aoli and Grilled John Dory served with potato mash and salad are your plats du jour so head on down to the bungalow to get your weekly intake of beef or fish (Remember - fish increases brain functionality so this is practical as well as tasty.)
City Hotel is much more than meets the eye at street level. Several eye-catching rooms comprise this bar hotel and there is even a beer garden out the back as well. Décor comprises a mix of tables and plush chesterfield lounge areas for you to choose from in the main bar. Of the nightly specials – Wednesdays take our pick as gourmet pizzas are on offer from 5pm for $10 with toppings including garlic prawn, prosciutto and even a delectable four-cheeses. They also hold trivia on Wednesdays for those who fancy a side of entertainment so this is a perfect inexpensive night out for a group of friends.
Ryans Bar; Australia Square
At the base of Australia Square's statuesque tower is Ryan's Bar. Directly opposite Wynyard station, this well-positioned venue offers both indoor and outdoor bars (the latter heated with outdoor heaters when the evenings get chilly). A favourite with the corporate crew; Ryans is the perfect venue to head to on the way home from a hard day at work, or even after an easy day at work. Wednesdays and Thursdays will make your mouth water with $10 pizzas from 5pm, but like the other bars on this list also has specials on other weeknights. Click here for more information.
Johnny Wong's Dumplings Bar – 383 Bourke Street Darlinghurst
In a city with so much amazing Asian food on offer (and for affordable prices) we still can't help but get excited every time Wednesday rolls around and it's time for Wong-Tang Wednesdays at Johnny Wongs. Every Wednesday sees Johnny's favourite dumplings served up for $1 a pop. After about 5 I'm usually done so this is an amazing deal to keep you full throughout the winter nights with hot and steamy goodness.
Flavour options include pork, prawn gow gee, chicken and water chestnut and vegetarian. The atmosphere is always lively and the bar is busy so get in quick before this 'not so well-kept secret' gets out.
